The structure of ee cummings’ poem seems to be very bewildering and very hard to understand but as you stare at it, you could see that there is a part where it is enclosed in a parenthesis. Inside the parenthesis, a word is formed and that is “a leaf falls”. And on the outside part of the poem, loneliness is formed. Sometimes, people initiate the falling of a leaf as death like the story of the Last Leaf but sometimes, it does not only mean death though it could also be associated. The falling f a leaf may mean a separation. As we all know, leaves are grouped just like humans. We have our own set of friends and sometimes, due to some misunderstanding, one may choose to separate and isolate him or herself from the group. This is the same as the leaf that is isolated from the group of leaves. In a mathematical theorem or equation, we use parenthesis to separate a value from the other. Humans are like numbers that are given boundaries or is put in a wall. Humiliation is a factor where one would want to build walls within him or herself.
